The Fundraising Dinner on the 23rd March at the Avenues was a huge success raising a record £35,000 for youth activities which are in jeopardy as a result of cuts in public funding of youth services. Thank you to all 111 guests who came and made it such a great event, and for your generous support, and that of many who couldn’t be there on the night.
The caterers, Tasting Plates, once again volunteered their services and did an amazing job with everyone commenting how good the food and service was. Our newly refurbished ground floor foyer was packed for drinks and canapes and guests were invited by youth workers to consider our Tree of Wishes. Generous supporters gave the thumbs-up to activities as varied as, dance, climbing, arts, theatre and a summer camp, sandwiches for tea-time were also a popular choice.
The raffle boasting a magnum of Champagne and other prize drinks raised £1800 on its own and the live auction, which was skillfully and amusingly handled by gallerist, club and restaurant owner Alex Proud, raised a further £6780 with prizes kindly gifted by local businesses and generous donors.

Avenues was delighted to offer Russell-Cooke Solicitors exclusive commercial sponsorship of the event and Alan Edwards, partner at Russell-Cooke (previously Alan Edwards & Co.) commented – “it was a pleasure to be able to sponsor such a successful evening for a very worthwhile cause. The lack of public funding was very ably pointed out by the auctioneer who persuaded me to successfully bid for something I did not really want. I hope to see you all there again on the next occasion.”
Amy Lewis, senior associate at Russell-Cooke (previously Alan Edwards & Co.) added – “The best part of the evening for me was hearing from the impressive young people, a truly enjoyable event!”
