We entered the M&S Energy Fund competition for a chance to win £11,135 to upgrade the lighting in the building to energy efficient LEDs. This would save us up to £5,000 a year in bills which we could put towards youth work.
Although we couldn’t compete with the secondary schools who mobilised thousands of parents and pupils to vote, the judges selected four projects on merit from across the country and Avenues Youth Project was one of the deserving winners!
This is what the judges said:
“A truly inspiring project, The Avenues put together a fantastic video showcasing the array of activities and services provided at the centre. Over the past few years the organisation has had to find alternative means of funding and the judges were impressed by the organisation’s drive – in what has been a difficult few years – to connect with some of the more marginal groups in society.”
